We are now back from GenCon, one of the largest games conventions in the U.S. It was a 5 day event for us that went from July 29 to August 4. After playing the "recovering from GenCon game", we would like to bring you August's Convert Monthly!
Note: since we have a number of actual games as well as puzzles, we have changed the name of this article to simply be "Convert Monthly" going forward.
The theme this month is "Change", and the scoreboard actually plays a vital role as a playing piece in this game we are calling...
The Game Changer...
Setup: Keep both colors of pieces within reach of both players.
Objective: Score rows of 4 squares with the color block you are currently playing. (more below)
Playing: Determine the color block you will be selecting. This is based on the color of the square your token is covering on the scoreboard.
Example 1: The player with the black scoring token happens to be on a white square on the scoreboard, therefore they will select a white piece from the pile of pieces and play it.
Example 2: The white player is on a black square on the scoreboard, so they choose a black piece. Then, they score 1 point with that piece. As white moves their scoring token forward, they land on a white square. This means the next piece they play will be white.
Scoring: Each piece is worth a different amount of points. This is based on the piece's footprint, or how many squares the piece covers.
• There is NO endgame bonus for coverage.
Scoring Bonuses: Each row you create will score the piece again! For example, if you score 2 rows with a piece that has a footprint of 3 squares, you will score 6 points! Yikes!
If you don't have a copy of Convert, you can get it here, and follow along with the rest of the puzzles and games throughout the year!
